Frank Wess Ténor & Flûte

Message par Patlotch le Jeu 31 Oct 2013

Saxophonist and flutist Frank Wess, a marvel of jazz longevity who famously played with Count Basie in the 1950s, died earlier today. He was 91, and according to the Twitter account of NPR’s A Blog Supreme, Wess died in the afternoon of kidney failure.
A native of Kansas City, Oklahoma, Wess played in a wealth of situations from the bands of Basie and Elvin Jones to the Saturday Night Live band. He co-led a group called the Two Franks with fellow reedman Frank Foster. Of the discs by that group, I have very fond memories of the disc Frankly Speaking. which was released in 1984
